Jaclyn: Welcome baby Caden!

Remember This?!
This picture feels like it was taken a long time ago.
Today Caden is out of her tummy and 1 1/2 months old and I'm sitting pretty at 31 weeks!
It's Crazy Crazy Crazy how time goes by!

Here is her story from my point of view:
I was working out on a Wednesday morning.  August 22, 2012 to be exact.  The class had just let out when I had a voicemail flash on my phone screen... It was from Jaclyn!

You know what that means... it is BABY TIME!  Yes I'm shouting this to you in my text because I was so surprised!
My best friend was in labor... How exciting.

My mind went into overdrive.  I had 2 crazy, loving looney tunes to pass off on either my mother in law or mother!
My mom won that!

She took the boys from me after I had a chance to clean up and then I was off to Austin to witness an absolute miracle!

Have you ever seen a baby brought into this world through childbirth the way God created our bodies to do it if all goes as planned?  You need to if you haven't, it is UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Jaclyn was in the hospital room when Matthew and I had our angel, Cullen.  Unfortunately she was in Bolivia when Eli was born, but fortunately she was where God wanted her to be.

I was worried for her to watch the entire process of Cullen's arrival but she wouldn't have it another way.  She described it as amazing, unbelievable, a miracle etc, and I got it, but not really.  Not from her point of view.  Now I do and it was beautiful... almost indescribable!

Let me get back on track:
I got up to Austin about 12:30, 1... I'm not really sure, but when I did she was just getting into intense contractions.  She was a champ!  A Division 1 volleyball player throughout college, back problems, spinal taps etc... This was just another one of those situations.

I am most impressed that she got to 5.5 cm without any medication!  The pain became to intense and she finally made the great decision to get an epidural... smart woman.  There is NO shame in that.
This picture group is of Jax being a rock star through contractions.

We came back into the room after she had been given the epidural and the mood was completely different.  Happy, ready to have a baby!

Foot massages, jolly ranchers, plenty of encouragement from her hubby Taylor, mom, mom in law, leah and me and lots of waiting.  We were all ready to meet Caden!  Especially mommy and daddy :-)

She was a beauty the entire process of labor.  It was so great to see her smiling especially when they made the great announcement of 10 CM!!!  I love her facial expression.

It was now time to get things rolling.  I can tell you because I am already a mom, that the pushing process is exhausting.  It is just not fun, it takes everything out of you.  There is a verse: 1 Timothy 2:15
But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint.

Childbirth is an almost impossible feat.  It takes it all out of you.  You have nothing left when that baby comes out... empty... Then they hand you your baby and everything comes back in an entirely new light!  Life!  It's beautiful!

Jaclyn pushed through and did an amazing job.  Below are a few pictures of Caden's first moments.

Mommies are the stars in delivering, but dads are amazing as well.  Taylor was overjoyed by the arrival of Caden.  He was an encourager the entire way and Jaclyn's and his efforts paid off.  He was and is a beautiful BIG baby!

Instantly a MOMMY!

Another thing I enjoyed watching was how Jaclyn took on the role of "mom" immediately... there was no transitional period at that moment,  simply mommy.  Her facial expressions show it all.  Concern, possibly a little uncertainty, amazement, joy, awe, happiness, LOVE!

Way to go Jaclyn and Taylor.  You have a beautiful family and handsome little boy.  I am so excited to live out this journey with you!

Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go.  Even when he is old he will not depart from it.

You will be amazing parents!  Show yourselves grace, it's all worth it!

XOXO,
Laura

"Highlight Reel" Psssshh! Not this time

My Reality Reel
{fun}

We all know we've heard it and said it ourselves
... blogs, Facebook, instagram, PINTEREST etc...
They are HIGHLIGHT REELS!!!

I admit, I enjoy sharing with the world the happy moments in life with all of my friends and family.
But it's not reality.
Not every day is full of smiles, cleanliness, organization and sanity.  On the contrary.... we have messy rooms, kitchens and clothes, loudness, laziness, and most definitely INsanity!
Still, there is love and there are happy times and smiles despite those moments.

I'm going to let you see an instagram snapshot view into my everyday imperfect life :-)
It may be upsetting surprising, but please don't remove me as a friend or pity me!!
Enjoy the honesty and feel better about yourself.

Would I LOVE to be the most organized, cleanly, happy woman I know who not only is that, but also has time to do all of it and manage not to neglect their children or husband while being so successful?... duh!
Will that ever be me?  NO!  not 100%  if it were then I wouldn't be me.

I believe that God made me the way I am for the family I have and the life He wants me to live.
There is always room for improvement, and being reformed- no one in their right mind can say there isn't {Praise God}

The down stair and what we have going on here.

Pretty huh!

Let's be honest, this is nothing to brag about, but it is hopefully something to relate to.  I want to be encouragers to each other and help each other be better versions of ourselves.

With this out in the open I'll be held more accountable :-)

Okay so starting from top left corner to bottom right:
1. The Living Room-  This is probably the cleanest room in our house!
It is rarely used and if the boys do decide to get in there and play/make a fort/ race cars/ play t-ball, football, wrestle etc with daddy then there is a lovely trunk to throw it ALL back into when they're over it...
You can just imagine what the trunk looks like inside, but who has an organized trunk??
{if you do, just keep your mouth shut}

2. The Kitchen Desk- There is a bit of organization here.  It may not look that way but I promise there is :-)  The boxes on the ground {in place of where a chair should be} are filled with giveaways and Southern Living items I'd like to sell in a garage sale.  There is no telling how long these will be there.  I am growing VERY tired of them though so my goal is not much longer!

3.  The kitchen sink- I have been blessed by God with a husband who does the dishes!
LET ME REPEAT...
he DOES the dishes {most of the time} without complaint.
Yet the picture shown here is of my doing.
I finally got my hands "dirty" in the dishes by rinsing them off and placing them in the dishwasher.  Yes, I unloaded the clean dishes that were still in there from Matt washing them the previous night.
The dishes do get done regularly, in this instance though we had been "busy" with other things.
**excuse**
Matt and I were in California about a week and a half ago for 5 days and we returned to a sick kiddo and we ourselves got sick.  So really, who needs clean dishes when you're on vacation or you and your baby are sick with the stomach bug?  No one in this family!!!
Let me say I am grateful to my mom for soaking the pots left in the sink while we were away
(Love you mom)

4. Laundry Room: Oh Lord is this room ever organized.  I swear, 3 males and one female produce A LOT of laundry- You all know how this goes!
Thankfully the clothes shown in the picture are clean.  It is a matter of putting them away in a timely manner.
Reasons I give for why the laundry room isn't clean:
-If only I had baskets
-I need more hangers {who has time to buy hangers and if you do, who remembers?!}
-Where is my maid!!?  {I'm ashamed :-( } but lets be honest we've all thought it!
-Too bad I don't have a PINTEREST laundry room
-Natural light or bright paint would make it so much more enjoyable to be in there.

5. The Powder Bath: This room is normally clean.  There has been an unfortunate "mishap" recently in this room that has made it unfriendly!!
Cullen asked me to hold a miniature toy car of his in my pocket the other day.  I obliged his request.  When we got home each of us took a turn going to the restroom.
The car fell out of my back pocket and into the toilet water.  Before I could retrieve it, Cullen took his turn.
My quick decision was to try and flush it hoping the car would sit in a visible area.
It DIDN'T!  Go figure.  Soo...
I let matthew know of the situation when he got home and requested it be taken care of.  I deemed this situation a MAN's job!!!

Well...it didn't get taken care of, it has yet to be taken care of and well... you can imagine what a toilet that only halfway flushes is like.  Not good, not good at all.  We are both ashamed and you should be as well.  I'm still leaving it up to Matt to fix :-)

6. Family Room Coffee Table: There is a very simple explanation for the messiness on this table.
I'm going to go ahead and blame it on my unborn child, Beckett.
Yes, this table is dirty due to the unfinished crafts I have in the making for his nursery.  I know it makes Matt Crazy but I can't help this.  There is no space for a craft room in our house ;-)
It'll all be worth it when then crafts are completed.  He will appreciate it, I just know it!

7.  Kitchen Table:  Black, what a terrible idea!  Loved it for a while now I am overwhelmed by how quickly it dirties.  Smudges, crumbs stuck in the grooves, yogurt spills from a child {no names} who has a very difficult time keeping it in the container... hard to keep clean.

My mother in law has a table she is willing to give us, thank you so much, we just have to make the initiative in getting rid of the current table!

8. "Cute"Art Display Wall:  I had every intention in keeping this up to date and pinterest worthy.  I have failed.  The quotes within the frames haven't been updated through the season as I had planned.  The art that the boys bring home from school that are too precious to be put in a box haven't been updated since last preschool year.   I believe there are even pictures of the boys as babies up there.  Nothing current... That sums it all up.
Truly this is a quick fix, but it is sooo little in the scheme of things.

Anyone else have a few failed projects such as this one?  Maybe I shouldn't call the project a fail, just my ability to keep it up to date.

9.  Family Room:  Really the biggest problem in here is the dust.  Go ahead and ignore the pallet we have on the floor please!  A sick mommy, daddy and boys = TV time and sleeping on a pallet during the day.
Another problem could be the amount of time the TV is on.  It has become background noise in our house.  It's on while we aren't paying any attention to it.  That is just silly.

Well there you have it!  The true glimpse into our "Reality Reel" of life.
It's not glamorous but it is real and I'd like to think it is normal for a lot of people!
**this mess is not true of our life 100% of the time**

I am tired of not inviting people over {something I love to do} because I don't have it all together like I believe the rest of you do.  It is embarrassing and I compare myself too much to my friends.  I think I should get over this!

It's something I want to make better.  Taking the time to do it is a simple fix... but for some reason, not so simple.

I better get a grip on it quick.  Beckett will be here is 9 weeks!  9 WEEKS!!!
I can't even imagine what it will be like in this house with 3 BOYS if I don't get things rolling here.
Thankfully I have a God who is full of grace and love.  He is here to reform me and make me into a better version of me.
Keeping a spotless house is on the bottom end of the ladder to me.  A happy house, a creative house a loving house is more important in my book.
And Hello, I am not even successful at that all the time!

Funny fact:  there was a woman who spoke at MOPs this morning who discussed things we preoccupy our occupation of being a mom and wife with.
Believe it or not, and I am serious here, there are women who spend more time CLEANING then playing with their kiddos... What?  Not possible!!  Just teasing, I admire those women.
Really, I have no issue with setting down the mop, broom, duster etc.  I do want to work on the relationship we have.

So what does this mean?

I'd like to start having people over more.  My friends will love me for me.
I am going to keep a more organized house.  It needs to happen, no question.
This is my current reality through ecard confessions:

I will, God help me, work on spending more time with my boys rather preoccupying my occupation as a mom with things that truly have no worth and no heavenly importance.

I have every intention of writing another blog post with pictures of a clean house!  Hold me to it...
It's on the internet so it has to be true right?!

This was fun... Sigh, I feel better :-)
{don't be embarrassed Matthew!}

XOXO,
Laura

Matthew 11:29 scripture encouragement for the above.
29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is EASY and My BURDEN is LIGHT.”

Jesus wants us to be in his presence, to "be covered in the dust from his feet" because we are following him so closely.  His yoke is easy and the burden is light.
There is no point letting the everyday stresses overwhelm you until you are unable to do things for his Glory.  Take his yoke upon you.  This is what my heart is focused on for now.

Thanks for reading and I hope you have enjoyed YOUR "Reality Reel" today!

Hook 'Em Horns!

Matt and I have supported the UT Longhorns for many years together :D
It is my doing I suppose.  My family loves the horns and we met each other while I was a junior at the university.
He was immediately thrown into the craziness... of both the fan support and of my family.
I remember one of our first dates was at the ring ceremony where I received my class ring.
{picture below in front of the longhorn}
Funny thing about this picture is when my little brother Josh first saw it he told us he felt sorry for Matt because he didn't know how to make the UT Hook Em sign correctly...
He didn't know Matt was holding up the Roadrunner sign.
A man has to support his alum :-)
Josh felt a little better about Matt and his credibility when it was explained.

Like I said, many years of UT outings together, just look below.  We had been on 1 maybe 2 dates when I had the chance to go to the Rose Bowl Championship game in California.  I was texting him most of the time with game updates.  I believe it may have been Matt's first experience with text messaging.  His family made fun of him in the beginning because his much younger girlfriend TEXT MESSAGED him!  Foreign concept to them ;-)  It caught on thankfully!

Our boys have been longhorn fans from the very beginning.  Both Eli and Cullen watched and cheered from within the womb.

Hot and Brutal games were worth it if the horns won;  tailgates and shopping made it worth it if they didn't.

We have had friends join us in the fun, watched my cousin get proposed to on the 50 yd line after a game, seen Ricky Williams break records, enhanced OR ruined our Thanks Givings by watching the UT vs ATM game, attended many dreaded hot Cotton Bowl games, have dressed our boys in all sorts of longhorn getups and we hope to see them go on to win a championship this year!

Beckett has attended one game so far this season.  It was the season opener.  My mom and I took Eli and Cullen by ourselves while the guys were hunting out at the ranch.  Praise the Lord they were well behaved and had a blast.
David Ash is now a commonly used word in their vocabulary.
My cousin played on the drum line in college and has an "in" with people now playing on it.  She was able to get the "Big Bertha" team to let E and C hold the sticks and get a picture in front of the drum.

Eli has a solid hook em hand sign, Cullen is still working on it.  His is a one horned hook em, but I'm confident he will have it down soon.

Fun UT facts:
*Matt gave me my engagement ring at one of the Cotton Bowl game weekends while at dinner for my sister's birthday.  She opened the ring box as one of her gifts then handed it over to me.  I was quite surprised and equally happy!
* Eli had the Texas Fight song memorized by the time he was 2
*Eli surprised us by randomly saying "Hey I know how to spell TEXAS backwards... SAXET!" ... who taught you that?!
*We own maybe 7 UT jerseys between the boys {collected over the years}
*My closest cousin was proposed to on the 50 yard line after a game and we cheered him on from above.
*Cullen is entertained for long periods of time by the UT iPhone app and all the different fight songs the app will play.
*Matt didn't go to UT but he did play baseball for UTSA and I'd like to attribute his cute rear end to his many years of playing.

There are many more but I'm falling asleep.  I can't go on :-)

Hope you've enjoyed this random UT blog post.  We love our horns!
Way to go so far this season...
Let's work on defense!!

Joyfully and with much
XOXO,
Laura

Little Adventurer Nursery

I've been toying with ideas for Beckett's room sine we found out he was a boy and decided on his name.
So... Little Adventurer is what I'm going with.
A mix of hunting dogs, maps, woodland animals, blue/greens and neutrals and the perfect accessory... Baby Beckett!

So take a look at what I have dreamed up; then take a good look in your house to see if you have any items similar to these you have no use for!  If you'd like to share, fantastic!!!
Or, if any of you wonderful friends out there would like to join me for some fun thrift store shopping, I'd be pleased with that as well ;-)

Volunteers also welcomed for the following:
Painting walls
Building pallet wood frame to hang deer head from
Painting Beckett's name in letters or across an old/new map
Finding an open bookshelf (weathered or not)
Painting wood frames my mother in law let me have :-D

{please know that I'm not just teasing}

Gender Reveal Party

I'm Halfway There
&
It Certainly is another BOY!!!
Andrea Riebel: Fantastic Cake Creation!
She should photograph you!  www.jenniferwildey.com

While I was away at camp with my mom, my mother in law and sister in law {Kim and Tracey} did a fantastic job at setting the scene for the Gender Reveal Party!!!  They did such a great job, I loved it.

My little guy Cullen was 100% certain we were going to cut the cake and see pink confirming he would be having a sister.  Hattie is what he called her and will one day be her name if a daughter is what God wills for Matthew, me and our family!

He sure does look adorable in his pink :-)

Team Pink outnumbered Team Blue

My friends Jamie, Matt and their kiddos Camryn and Jaxson were part of team blue.

Before we cut into the cake people snacked and chatted about life and what was going to be inside that darn cake!

We made sure to document our family before we knew we'd be having a little dude or little lady
joining us.

These guys were filled with anticipation ;-)

Cake Cutting Time!!!
It was nerve wracking cutting into the cake.  I swear I broke out in a sweat after my dad {Pappy} and Kim {Mimi} prayed over everyone and the sweet baby growing inside.

Jen captured the moment perfectly when we saw blue cake peeking out from the icing and our reactions!
Jennifer Wildey you captured the perfect memories

My sweet Cullen had a surprise reaction to the blue cake.  He lost it.  That precious little pout he has jutted out and crocodile tears ran down his face as he protested the little brother he now knew he was going to have.  "I want a baby sister though", "I don't want a brother, I want a sister", "I want my daddy"  etc...
Needless to say he broke my heart and my instant reaction was to cry along with him.
Look at my face, there is joy there prior to the crying!
I am so glad we had friends there to distract him and pink balloons to pop that would bring on his sweet sweet smile.

Eli on the other hand said, "See!! I told you it was going to be a brother!"  He was instantly delighted.

The mood after that cake cutting was lighthearted and bubbly!  People who guessed correctly beamed and those who didn't still were delighted.

Oh Lord, Here we go, Three Boys!!!

My grandma Millie made it to the party.  {she's wearing purple}

This one will make her 8th great grandson.

Sending our thanks up to God... I LOVE the expressions on E & C's faces.

My best friend and her belly making it to the party= perfection!

20 weeks and 37 weeks
Boy and ???
Even though my mom was certain she would be having a granddaughter she was overjoyed with the fact that it would be her 3rd grandson!

Bellies, Besties and Hubbies.
We are so grateful to have family who love and support us

Matt and I were more than blessed at the gender reveal party for baby #3!
We were covered in love and excitement from the best family and friends.
God has given us more than we could have asked for and although I had {for a little while} a different idea for what my family would look like {a girl} I cannot wait to have God prove to me that his plans far exceed my own!  We are having another son!!! Another Srp boy to be a mighty warrior for God in this world.
My prayer for my three sons is that they love the Lord, love each other and that they will be a light to others!
If they are anything like their daddy they will meet expectations!

Beckett Winston Srp
Joining us December 18th 2012!!

Laura

Camp Chi Rho

Camp Chi Rho and the long road there:

Blown Gasket
The beginning of the car trouble began 20 minutes from home.  We had finally wrangled everyone together and were on our way to Arkansas, but not without first stopping by McDonalds and Starbucks.

We turned the Excursion off at Starbucks so that the lady could hear our order over the engine.  When restarted the car began its funkiness.  It sounded like a roaring Lion, Cow, Siren, etc... and it would not accelerate.

Solution, stop at the Auto Zone next door and ask a man there for help.  Brad, Garrett, Cody Eryn and I sat in the car while my mom went in to try and explain the problem that was occurring, only when they came back to the car the noise suddenly stopped.

"Lets Do This"  something along the lines Cody shouted out when the noise stopped.  We listened.
Off to Arkansas {again}

We made it all the way to Sulfur Springs and gained a false sense of security...
Chicken Express was too tempting so we stopped in to take a break from driving and eat lunch.
When we got back in the Excursion, Black Beauty, the car acted up again.  This time it was worse.  I couldn't get the car to go over 10mph and the noise was even more prominent.

Luck would have it that there was yet another Auto Zone to seek help from.

While my mom was inside asking for help I took the excursion for a drive around the parking lot attempting to make it stop.  I gave up and put it in park and turned it off in front of the Zone.

My mom got back in, I restarted the car and SURPRISE... no more noise!!

We got on the road as quick as we could again before anything acted up.  Probably not the smartest idea.

30 minutes into the drive the Beast stopped accelerating.  Yep, on the high way and the car decided it wanted to stop going.  I put it on cruise at 60 mph and set the flashers to flash!
Being the "ambitious" driver that I am it was hard to see all of the vehicles passing by so effortlessly in the left lane.  :-(

Brad took it upon himself to find a Ford dealership along the way we could possibly stop at.  Thankfully there was, 30 miles away.  We made it!!!
IT WAS CLOSED!

Next option: the Walmart two buildings over.
The men working told us they thought that we had bigger problems than they could handle.

Next Option: My dad tried to call Enterprise because we all know "ENTERPRISE, WE PICK YOU UP!"  Well... NOT on Sundays!
There was a Hertz in Texarkana, about a 30 minute drive away.  It was at the airport and they would not/ could not pick us up.

Next Solution:  A Taxi would come to the walmart, pick my up mom, me and brad and drive us to the airport.  Cody, Garrett and Eryn waited at the walmart with the broken Excursion while we were off to rent a car {2 cars to be exact}

Don't blink at the Texarkana airport,  you will miss it!

We rented our cars and were on our way back to New Boston to get the others.

FINALLY we were on our way to arkansas.  Not with out an ice cream stop to settle our nerves though.

With our luck we were stopped in bumper to bumper traffic outside of Little Rock for no less than an hour.  We gave in then and decided to stop for the night before driving the rest of the way to the camp site.  That was great decision.

Next morning and 3 hrs later we made it to the campsite!  It was lovely.

Believe me, that may sound a little over dramatic, but it is how it happened.  Thankfully I had wonderful driving partners in Garrett and Brad.  We didn't lose hope and we made a great time of all the craziness.

Hunger Games Theme for camp
The entire week away at camp was wonderful!  No, we didn't escape the heat... it was possibly hotter there in Arkansas then it was in Texas.

I was there for worship.  The band was fantastic.  The worship we shared together with the students and God was amazing.  It was such a sweet time.

Jason Seville spoke.  He had nothing but truth for all of us, students and adults included.
There were so many memorable moments from camp.

Only thing I'd change would be having my family, Matt and the boys, there with me!

High Points from Camp:
The Videos.  Let me just say that the youth workers are impressive in their talent.  The videos were hilarious.

Food, it was legit food not dirty camp food!  Pretty sure the 4lb weight gain was from that!

The band: who I spent most of my time with.  Such great people in love with Jesus Christ!

The Message
Explicitly communicate the gospel:
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,
(1 Corinthians 15:3-4 ESV)

Lose the excuses: I don't have enough memorized.  Just say I don't know, seek council and seek out that person to share the truth.
**You grow by being in a community where you are challenged and grow from different situations**

Serve Other People:
Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
(Philippians 2:3-4 ESV)

Count others as more important, more significant than yourself!  Oh such a hard concept in a world where the self is idolized.

I left camp that week filled up and blessed.

Thank goodness because we had much more drama ahead in the car department.
... We were ready ;-)
