Have you seen the paci?

Here are a few different ways this dreaded location of the paci question has been asked in our house.
"Have you seen the paci?" Calmly
"Paci?" Cullen requesting it
"PACI!!!"  Cullen demanding it
"Where's the Paci?!!? I know he just had it in his mouth!"  Asked when it goes missing a minute after it was in his mouth
"UGGHHH WHERE IS THE PACI!!????"  Any time cullen is screaming and we have no idea where the only paci Cullen will take is missing!

The pacifier was and still is, at times, a great thing for Cullen.  It is an instant calming agent in our household.  Sweet, precious boy loves his pacifier.  Unfortunately all but 2 have gone missing.  One he will take and the other he will not.  Stubborn boy refuses the paci with the soccer ball print on it.

I'm attempting to have him keep it in his bed so that we will know where it is for nap and bed time.  It will save us the stress from not knowing where it is at any given point in time throughout the day.  Because he is growing up into such a big boy, Matt and I feel that it may be time to have him give it up completely, but I'm not convinced yet.  It is not fun hearing a little boy scream and scream and scream when told he can't have it.

Cullen and his beloved pacifier.

You will be missed!  You made it through a lot.  You've been lost, thrown, chewed, dropped in the toilet, left in stores, washed in the dishwasher, stolen by dogs, and taken by Eli and others to pester Cullen.  You were also loved very much, laughed with, played with, and even shared with friends at times.  Paci, you also made my sad little boy happy, soothed him in sickness, calmed him when scared, eased the pain of a booboo, and silenced a tantrum in seconds.  You were washed an unknowable amount of times because of how covered in boogers, ice cream, tears, dirt, mac and cheese, toilet water, germs from the mall's floor, and food in general, and now the time has come to throw you away.

So long pacifier, and hello handsome big boy smile!

Valentines Day and D-Now 2012

My family had a very busy Valentines week!  Props to hubby for being such a team player.  He has been bogged down with work yet he still supports me and my singing.

Saturday:  This day ended the Whole30 challenge with Crossfit.  I didn't get the results I thought I'd get, but I did take 1 min 45 seconds off my workout challenge time.  That made the other numbers easier to get over.  Matt did great and he looks even better ;-)... he's a handsome dude!

Sunday:  We spent the afternoon celebrating my sister-in-law Jill's birthday at The Peach Cafe, eating  homemade strawberry shortcake, yum, and opening presents.  I had to leave for practice and a committee meeting while Matt stepped up again by taking care of the boys.
The meeting was an interview with Chris Bruce.  He is who our church is considering for the full time 11:00 worship leader.  I am praying expectantly that he, and his family, is who God has written in the books for FBC!

Monday:  MOPS Valentines meeting was this day. MOPS is a time for women to socialize, eat, learn and relax while their pre k children are being kept by fabulous volunteers for 2 1/2 hours!  It's wonderful.  Chris and I were asked to sing over the women a few times this year at the meetings.  We did this last meeting and I love it because it's a learning experience each time.  Funny, and not being negative, but it always feels like a lounge act singing there ;-)

Tuesday:  Valentines Day!  This year was low key.  I went to work and had a party with the 1 yr old classes.  The babies were precious in their valentine outfits and excited for all of the treats they were taking home.
E, C and I did something a little outside our regular routine after school.  Instead of the drive thru we went and sat inside Starbucks.  Eli placed the coffee order for me, extra hot, and I treated them to a cake pop.  What a great date we had.  Later that night we popped our own popcorn... in a pot... and Matt and I watched Horton Hears a Who with the boys.

Gigi and Pappy gave the boys sweet valentines gifts!  Go Spurs Go!

Thank you Gigi for my Valentines Day Dollar and Card

Flowers from Matt were the perfect addition to the mantel
Below are a few pictures from Valentines Day 2011:

Wednesday:  Busy Day!   Bible study started the day.  It is called Mercy Triumphs by Beth Moore.  If you are looking for a challenging, motivating study then I recommend it!
Me and the boys met some great friends for lunch at Boo Dawgs.  It has a great play area for the kiddos.  Courtney and I had a real, uninterrupted conversation while my boys and her Hudson and Averly played for almost 2 hrs!
After lunch we headed home for naps.  I had to get prepared for practice and Ignite later that night.  Almost immediately after Matt came home from work I was out the door for more singing activities.  Another practice and then Ignite.  The youth never cease to amaze me at these events.  There was singing, scripture reading and prayer; a very good night.
Then it was off to yet another practice!  Didn't get home till after 10.  Once I did Matt and I enjoyed some quality one on one time together.

Thursday:  Starbucks, work, another Starbucks after work and A DATE!!!
My mother-in-law, Mimi, picked the boys up after school so Matt and I could get ready for our date together in peace.  Matt didn't get home till about 5 so I had time to sit on the couch and do nothing but drink my coffee in silence.  Needed that, thank you Mimi.
Well, that quiet time was great until I started to get dressed for the night... then it turned into mass mayhem... Nothing worked!! Any women reading familiar with this insanity?  Matt got home and found me in the closet beside myself.  In my mind I was huge, and unattractive.  HE LAUGHED!!! oh well, he was right to, I was crazy.  It was one of those outer body experiences where you see how you're behaving and you are shaking your head at yourself but you just can't stop.  He laughed again when I finally decided on an outfit, "You had already tried that on 2x before!"   Thank you Matt for reminding me but more importantly for being patient with me.  Kona grill was where he treated me to dinner; Great decision Matt.  I love you, love sushi, and love that you treated me to another Starbucks and some magazine reading at Barnes and Noble after dinner.

Oh, and we had a surprise when we got home.  Mavis made us a container full of valentine sugar cookies... now it was a perfect date!

Friday:  D Now begins.  I took the boys to Crossfit in the morning so I could get a workout in for the weekend.  After, we went for donuts and headed to Gigi.  My mom helped me while I had to be at practice and Matt was at work.  She is great at being there for me when I need her!  You should get to know my mom, she is pretty fantastic!

Matt's sister Tracey asked if she could have Eli for the night.  Of Course!!  Tracey and Mike have two precious little girls, Hannah 4 and Hailey 1.  E and C adore them and enjoy every chance the get to play with them.  He stayed with them from dinner until lunch time the next day.  I'd love to be a fly on the wall while they play together.
One story I did hear had to do with sheep.  Outside of our neighborhood is a flock of sheep.  They hang out in the middle of the field most mornings and Eli likes to look at them.  Recently he asked if I'd allow him to pet the sheep.  I had to tell him no, and he wanted to know why.  Hmm...well Eli, "we don't know the man that lives there and he may be upset if he found us in his fence petting his sheep."  Eli, "maybe we can still ask, or maybe we can pet them from the fence!"  He kept on with different scenarios but finally let it go, so I thought.  He didn't, he told Tracey that there are sheep in our neighborhood and that he wants to pet them but his mommy wont let him.  Mimi asked who they live with and he told her a shepherd and he that he still wants to see them.  I love Eli, he has a great mind.

Saturday:  We had a worship set in the morning, afternoon and evening.  I was able to hang out with matt for a little while in between the morning and afternoon sessions.  We grabbed lunch at chick fil a and loaded up on food from Costco.  After that it was back to church for me and a nap for the boys.
Saturday evenings set was fantastic.  High school and middle school kids are contagious in their worship!  They get into it, and feel the presence of the Lord.  Matt brought the boys up to the later session and I'm so glad he did.  Eli was focused for enough time to comprehend what was going on and my sweet friends captured a very precious moment for us!

Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
Sunday:  I was a part of worship for the 8:30 and 11:00 services, both went well.  All of the time put into the weekend was worth it!  So grateful to have a God who cares about my dreams and desires. He heard me when I was a freshman dreaming about how I wanted to do what Star from Smith and Smith did for D Now.    He fulfilled a dream for me this weekend.  I am blessed.

Busy week was over!... time to breathe!

For those who may not know, Disciple Now is a weekend for the youth in our churches to deepen their faith if they already have a relationship with Jesus.  If they do not, then it is a great atmosphere  to begin one!  I love Disciple Now for how it is community driven.  Families volunteer their homes for the kids to stay for the weekend, host homes.  Each home has about 10-13 kids with a couple college leaders... messy, crazy, amazing!  The host families are feeding, transporting and caring for their home group throughout the weekend while the youth are learning, worshiping, and serving their community.

This year's service project was a 5k run, Run for Refuge.  The money raised ($6,000!!!) was given to Refuge of Light.  "Refuge of Light is an organization working to build the first safe house in Texas that will provide a safe haven and redemptive rescue for female minors who have been victims of human trafficking."   The weather was cold and rainy the day of the race, but those who ran were troopers and full of enthusiasm.

Here is a clip of Eli and Cullen singing to "Deep Cries Out"  a song we lead at D Now.
They have a spirit for singing and it makes their mommy proud!

Let's Rodeo San Antonio!

Matt and I went with my family to the opening night of the San Antonio Rodeo. My entire family joined. That includes my parents, my brother Jake and his wife Jill, my brothers Mike, Cody and Josh and my sister Hannah! Lots of people and lots of fun.

We went out to the fair first so Eli and Cullen could ride the rides. My siblings bailed early to go inside because of how cold it was! It never fails to be cold during the rodeo in San Antonio.

Eli and cullen rode on the airplanes and the bug roller coaster together. Cullen went on the swings by himself since Eli thought they were too "baby" for him...here we go :-)! Then they wanted me to take them on a dragon spinning ride. I did, but it was pretty lame. I'm pretty sure the carney put some sort of lock on it so it wouldn't spin. My mom made a comment about how it was a waste of tickets loud enough so he would hear. Then like magic we were spinning around and around and around. Gotta love Gigi!

Once we were inside the arena the boys were mesmerized by the festivities. There was a laser light show that they loved. Opening ceremonies with all the horses thrilled Eli. C and E both took part in the national anthem. All of us went below and loaded up on food (way too much)! Chicken fingers, nachos, beer, sprite, burgers, popcorn, ice cream, pretzels...there was a lot of food being shared between the 12 of us!

Eli and Cullen thought everything was "so cool"! They loved the bronco riding, the calf scramble, and bull riding. The mutton bustin' made them laugh a lot, they were belly laughing.  Eli would like to have his chance at Mutton Bustin.

A bit of silly time with Eli

During the bull riding I went with Hannah to find my friends Misty and Brooke. We found them and were able to take a cute picture...unfortunately creeper men took the picture for us. We lovingly informed them that Hannah was single ;-)

Creeper in Ponytail Behind Us

KEITH URBAN was the entertainment for the night! He was fantastic! We love his music. Matt and I have seen his show 4 times before and he never gets old! Eli and Cullen were dancing all around and singing. For his last song he made his way into the audience and it was right, and I mean right next to us!! It was very cool. At the end of it, he autographed his guitar and handed it to a precious little girl on her dads shoulders. My immediate thought was "wish I had Eli by me!" but when I saw her reaction I was soo happy for her! She was jaw dropped in shock. I would have been as well.

Signing the Guitar

So, all in all, the rodeo was a blast. We had great family time and enjoyed a fun show!

Walt Disney World pt. 1

WALT DISNEY WORLD, it was fantastic!  We went for 4 days and spent our time at the parks from sun up 'till way past sun down.  When Matt and I planned the trip back in August we were a bit concerned with what the weather would be like in January.  I am so glad there was no need for worry because the weather was perfect!  Mid 70's in the day and 50's in the evening... it was lovely!

Cullen was my packing buddy
My parents, Gigi and Pappy, joined us on the trip and thank goodness for that!  This was not their first rodeo at Disney World.  Their Disney trip count is up around 17, crazy!  The trip we just went on was different though because they came with us.  I was able to do most the planning and focused around Eli and Cullen...  this meant relatively low key.  It was nice.  We stayed at the Polynesian Resort, took advantage of the dining plan, and rode the magic your way bus to and from the airport.  The boys had a blast.  They became more and more brave each character they met and with each ride they went on.  Eli and Cullen made it home with quite the collection of souvenirs as well.

In my opinion, airports are stressful!  It doesn't matter how early you get there, if you're seats are assigned or not, traveling with kids or not, they are stressful.  Once we finally made it through security things eased up a bit.  We were able to get coffee for us and Mc Donald's for E & C.  On board the boys were situated, entertained and filling their tummies... then we were made aware of a "minor" problem.  The engine was down.  Don't worry though, we had a worker come on board and tell us "I think we fixed it!"  I THINK! That was not comforting.  So, after an hour of waiting on the runway the man was right and we ended up having an easy breezy trip.  The boys were very well behaved and despite the fact they didn't nap, we had no crying.  Yay!

Loving It!  He Was The Driver.

After the race track we headed over to Fantasy Land.  It was nearing 10:30 at this point... I know, we're crazy.  The shortest line in the area was Snow White's Scary Ride and the longest was Winnie The Pooh and Peter Pan...BOTH 90 MINUTES!!!  Let's just say that there was a reason the Snow White ride was so short.  It was terrifying; It was dark, loud, neon and the witch was all over inside.  Both Eli and Cullen hid their faces in our shoulders the majority of the time.  Eli made sure we all knew that he did not like that ride once we were off.

Food, we needed food so we headed over to the Harbor House for fish and chips, our 1st non paleo indulgence, and it was delicious!  The dining plan allows each person over 3 yrs to have an entree, drink, and dessert of their choice each meal.  Dessert... wouldn't that be lovely,  Matt and I opted for yogurt over the apple tart my mom and dad ate.  I couldn't resist a taste, it was worth it!   After the Harbor House we got in line for the last ride of the night.  You'll laugh when you hear what the boys were afraid to ride on due to the Snow White scaring them.

It's A Small World!  Eli and Cullen didn't want to go on It's A Small World!  Neither boy believed that there was nothing scary inside.  They discovered soon enough that that ride is VERY happy and the only scary thing may be the creepy clowns hanging from the hot air balloon toward the end.  Ok, so that may have just weirded me out but come on, clowns are strange in general!

Everyone was filled to the brim with happiness once we got off the ride (dramatic) but really, the boys loved it.  We still had fast passes to use for Space Mountain, and after all the kiddie rides, Matt, my dad and I were ready for a little thrill!  It was around 11:30 now.  My mom watched the boys while we went on the ride because they were exhausted.  I really wanted to take Eli on the ride with us.  Matt and my dad refused to indulge me on this.  They knew Eli would be tormented if he went with us on Space Mountain.  After the ride we found this:
Adorable
It was time to go to sleep so we could wake up and do it all again the next morning.

Goodnight Cinderella's Castle
To be continued...
